Vortex motion in ferromagnetic-superconducting bilayers constituted by thin YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ film deposited on the top of thin manganite La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_3$ film has been investigated. Both films were deposited on uniformly twinned single-crystalline substrates and patterned into strips directed at different angles to the twin lines pattern. These conditions lead to the guided vortex motion at different angles to the periodic pinning potential. It has bee...

Measurements of the nonlinear flux-flow resistivity $\rho$ and the critical vortex velocity $\rm v^*_\phi$ at high voltage bias close to the instability regime predicted by Larkin and Ovchinnikov \cite{LO} are reported along the node and antinode directions of the d-wave order parameter in the \textit{a-b} plane of epitaxial $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ films. In this pinning-free regime, $\rho$ and $\rm v^*_\phi$ are found to be anisotropic with values in the node direction large...

The competition between intrinsic disorder in superconducting YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-\delta}$ (YBCO) thin films and an ultradense triangular lattice of cylindrical pinning centers spaced at 30 nm intervals results in an ordered Bose glass phase of vortices. The samples were created by scanning the focused beam of a helium-ion microscope over the surface of the YBCO thin film to form columns of point defects where superconductivity was locally suppressed. The voltage-current i...

The current distribution across the thickness of a current-carrying rectangular film in the Meissner state was established long ago by the London brothers. The distribution across the width is more complicated but was later shown to be highly non-uniform, diverging at the edges. Accordingly, the standard view for type II superconductors is that vortices enter at the edges and, with increasing current, are driven inwards until they self-annihilate at the centre, causing dissip...

A rapid decrease in the critical current density (Jc) of YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) films with increasing film thickness has been observed for multiple YBCO growth processes. While such behavior is predicted from 2D collective pinning models under certain assumptions, empirical observations of the thickness dependence of Jc are believed to be largely processing dependent at present. To investigate this behavior in ex situ YBCO films, 2.0 and 2.9 um thick YBCO films on ion beam assist...

We report on the normal-superconducting phase transition in thick $\mathrm{YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}}$ films in zero magnetic field. We find significant finite-size effects at low currents even in our thickest films ($d = 3200$ \AA). Using data at higher currents, we can unambiguously find $T_c$ and $z$, and show $z = 2.1 \pm 0.15$, as expected for the three-dimensional XY model with diffusive dynamics. The crossover to two-dimensional behavior, seen by other researchers in t...

In this investigation we report the determination of the critical current density $J_c$ flowing in a $\mathrm{Y}\mathrm{Ba}_2\mathrm{Cu}_3\mathrm{O}_{7-\delta}$ superconducting thin film. Estimation of $J_c$ was carried out by an inductive technique, the so-called screening technique, in which both the imaginary part of the fundamental harmonic of susceptibility $\chi''_1$ and third harmonic voltage $V_3$ criteria were considered for the determination of the full penetration ...

Spatially-resolved studies of a YBaCuO thin film bridge using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), low-temperature scanning electron microscopy (LTSEM), and magneto-optical flux visualization (MO) have been carried out. Variations in chemical composition along the bridge were measured by EPMA with 3 microns resolution. Using LTSEM the spatial distributions of the critical temperature, Tc, and of the local transition width, dTc, were determined with 5 microns resolution. Distr...

We present magnetic field dependence of the critical current density from dc-magnetization measurements concerning the anisotropic behavior of flux line lattice (FLL) in a single crystal of YNi_2B_2C. The peak effect (PE) phenomenon is observed for all crystallographic orientations, but the second magnetization peak (SMP) anomaly is observed only for H//a. Our study reveals that the FLL obtained when H//[100] is better ordered within the basal plane. However, the FLL for H// ...
