We report on transport properties of grain boundaries fabricated in YBa2Cu3O7-x thin films grown by the liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) technique on MgO asymmetrical bicrystal substrate with 45o misorientation angle. In total around 10 samples have been studied. Substantial scatter of zero field values of the critical current density at 5K has been observed. The upper limit of Jc of the order of 104 A/cm2 found in our study is close to previously reported data for 45o bicrystals g...

The investigation of high-temperature superconductors under high magnetic fields is one of the most important topics in condensed matter physics. For YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_7$ (YBCO), the measurements of magnetoresistance under a high magnetic field are technically challenging because the required magnetic field ($B$) is 100 T class. The low temperature (from 52 to 150 K) magnetoresistance is measured in optimally-doped YBCO thin films under the condition $B$$\parallel$CuO$_2$-plane...

We report on measurements of the doping dependence of the upper critical field $H_{c,2}$ in 50 nm thick YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ films. The films are untwinned and are characterized by a small in-plane compressive strain. We find that the $H_{c,2}$ shows a strong decrease in the underdoped region of the phase diagram, in agreement with what has been measured in relaxed single crystals. The origin of the decrease of $H_{c,2}$ in the underdoped regime is discussed within a s...

Transport measurements carried out on twinned ybco films are compared to the predictions of a previously proposed model suggesting that the vortices move along the films twin boundaries that behave as rows of Josephson weak links [P.Bernstein and J.F.Hamet, J.Appl.Phys.95 (2004) 2569]. The obtained results suggest that, except if the films are very thin, the twin boundaries consist of superimposed rows of weak links with mean height,ds, whose mean length along the TBs is an u...

The vortex contribution to the dc field (H) dependent microwave surface impedance Z_s = R_s+iX_s of YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x} thin films was measured using suspended patterned resonators. Z_s(H) is shown to be a direct measure of the flux density B(H) enabling a very precise test of models of flux penetration. Three regimes of field-dependent behavior were observed: (1) Initial flux penetration occurs on very low field scales H_i(4.2K) 100Oe, (2) At moderate fields the flux penetratio...

We report the comprehensive comparative analysis of the upper critical magnetic fields $\mu_{0}H_{c2}(0)$ obtained within Ginzburg-Landau and Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg theories for optimally-doped $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ thin films. For different orientations of the magnetic field, our calculations give 638 and 153 T for $\mu_{0}H_{c2}(0)$, H || ab and $\mu_{0}H_{c2}(0)$, H || c, respectively, when using $H_{c2}(0)$. For the first time, the temperature dependences of cohere...

We created local pinning modulations in YBCO films by means of confined high energy heavy ion irradiation. The high energy of the ions allows us to introduce nanometric size defects with a well defined anisotropy. The dose was chosen in such a way to reduce the local critical current of the irradiated area. We used a quantitative magneto-optical analysis to measure the magnetic field vector and the supercurrent for each point of the whole sample surface. The basic geometry of...

Temperature dependence of the zero-field critical current density, Jc0(T), in the CuO2 planes has been investigated for c-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7-d (Y123) thin films with different hole content, p. p-values were varied by changing the oxygen deficiency, d. Jc0(T) were calculated from the magnetic hysteresis (M-H) loops obtained at different temperatures. From the analysis of the Jc0(T) data for different sample compositions, we have extracted valuable information regarding th...

The influence of Twin Boundaries (TB) on the Flux Line Lattice(FLL) structure was investigated by Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS). YBaCuO single crystals possessing different TB densities were studied. The SANS experiments show that the TB strongly modify the structure of the FLL. The flux lines meander as soon as the magnetic field makes an angle with the TB direction. According to the value of this angle but also to the ratio of the flux lines density over the TB dens...

We investigate the effect of the anisotropy and of the directional pinning in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-x}$ films grown by pulsed laser ablation from targets containing BaZrO$_3$ at 5% mol. BaZrO$_3$ inclusions self-assemble to give nanorods oriented along the c-axis, thus giving a preferential direction for vortex pinning. The directionality of vortex response is studied at high ac frequency with the complex microwave response at 48 GHz, as a function of the applied field and of th...
