We report structural, detailed DC and linear/non-linear AC, isothermal and thermoremanent magnetization study of the rutheno-cuprate superconducting ferromagnet RuSr2Gd1.4Ce0.6Cu2O10-{\delta} (GdRu-1222). Structural analysis, by employing Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction pattern, reveals that GdRu-1222 crystallizes in tetragonal phase with I4/mmm space group. GdRu-1222 is a reported superconducting ferromagnet with Ru spins magnetic ordering at around 110 K and superc...

X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) Ru L-edge and O K-edge measurements on single crystals of Sr2YRu1-xCuxO6 (x=0.01-0.05) solid solutions show that Cu replaces Ru in the lattice which results in a lattice distortion and itinerant holes that increase with increasing x. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements confirm the lattice distortion through changes in the lattice parameters. Magnetic measurements reveal an antiferromagnetic transition at 32 K in the crystals with x=0...

Eu2-xCexRuSr2Cu2O10-d (Ru-2122) is the first Cu-O based system in which superconductivity (SC) in the CuO2 planes and weak-ferromagnetism (W-FM) in the Ru sub-lattice coexists. The hole doping in the CuO2 planes, is controlled by appropriate variation of the Ce concentration. SC occurs for Ce contents of 0.4-0.8, with the highest TC=35 K for Ce=0.6. The as-prepared non-SC EuCeRuSr2Cu2O10 (x=1) sample exhibits magnetic irreversibility below Tirr=125 K and orders anti-ferromagn...

The RuSr2Gd1.5Ce0.5Cu2O10-d (Ru-1222) compounds, with varying oxygen content, crystallize in a tetragonal crystal structure (space group I4/mmm). Resistance (R) versus temperature (T) measurements show that the air-annealed samples exhibit superconductivity with superconducting transition temperature (Tc) onset at around 32 K and R=0 at 3.5 K. On the other hand, the N2-annealed sample is semiconducting down to 2 K. Magneto-transport measurements on air-annealed sample in ap...

The nuclear and magnetic structure of Fe1+y(Te1-x,Sex) (0 < x < 0.20) compounds was analyzed between 2 K and 300 K by means of Rietveld refinement of neutron powder diffraction data. Samples with x < 0.075 undergo a tetragonal to monoclinic phase transition at low temperature, whose critical temperature decreases with increasing Se content; this structural transition is strictly coupled to a long range antiferromagnetic ordering at the Fe site. Both the transition to a monocl...

The magnetic properties of superconducting Ru1-xSr2GdCu2O8 (x=0, 0.02) and non-superconducting RuSr2Gd1-xCexCu2O8 (x=0.07, 0.1) were investigated by means of magnetocaloric experiments with complementary magnetoresistivity and ac susceptibility measurements. The isothermal magnetocaloric coefficient M_{T}(B) assumes positive values in a broad range of temperatures (20K<T<231 K) and magnetic fields (0<B<13 T), i.e. also in the magnetically ordered state (T_{m}=132 K for RuSr2G...

An unusual thermal-magnetic hysteresis was observed between a minor magnetic transition around 120 K and the main one at 80 K in superconducting RuSr2(R,Ce)2Cu2O10-delta (Ru1222R) samples, where R = Gd or Eu, down to a submicron length-scale. The observation suggests a possible phase-separation and is consistent with the very small but universal demagnetizing factor observed, which is difficult to reconcile with the canted spin-structure previously proposed. In such a scenari...

A systematic study on the synthesis of the Ru-1212 compound by preparing a series of samples that were annealed at increasing temperatures and then quenched has been performed. It results that the optimal temperature for the annealing lies around 1060-1065 C; a further temperature increase worsens the phase formation. Structural order is very important and the subsequent grinding and annealing improves it. Even if from the structural point of view the samples appear substanti...

Neutron diffraction has been used to study the magnetic order in RuSr{2}GdCu2O8. The Ru moments order antiferromagnetically at T{N}=136(2)K, coincident with the previously reported onset of ferromagnetism. Neighboring spins are antiparallel in all three directions, with a low T moment of 1.18(6) mu {B} along the c-axis. Our measurements put an upper limit of ~0.1 mu{B} to any net zero-field moment, with fields exceeding ~0.4T needed to induce a measurable magnetization. The G...
