The low temperature magnetization process of the ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is studied using the interacting boson approximation. In the low field regime and near the saturation field, the spin wave excitations are approximated by the $\delta$ function boson gas for which the Bethe ansatz solution is available. The finite temperature properties are calculated by solving the integral equation numerically. The comparison is made with Monte Carlo calculatio...

We provide an intuitive understanding of the collective low-energy spin excitation of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain, known as the spinon. To this end, we demonstrate how a single spinon can be excited by adding one extra spin to the ground state. This procedure accurately reproduces all key features of the spinon's dispersion. These follow from the vanishing norm of the excited state which is triggered by the ground state entanglement. Next, ...

We describe a method for calculating dynamical spin-spin correlation functions in the finite isotropic and anisotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg models. Our method is able to produce results with high accuracy over the full parameter space.

We calculate the excitation spectrum and spectral weights of the alternating antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic spin-half Heisenberg chain with exchange couplings $J$ and $-|\lambda|J$ as a power series in $\lambda$. For small $|\lambda|$, the gapped one-particle spectrum has a maximum at $k=0$ and there is a rich structure of bound (and anti-bound) states below (and above) the 2-particle continuum. As $|\lambda|$ is increased past unity the spectrum crosses over to the Haldane ...

Low-lying excited states as well as the ground state of the spin-1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with a spin-1/2 impurity are studied by means of a method of numerical diagonalization. The isotropic nearest-neighbor exchange coupling plus the uniaxial single-ion-type anisotropy energy is assumed for the host-system Hamiltonian. The energy differences between the ground state and the low-lying excited states, which appear in the Haldane gap, are estimated in the thermodyn...

We use numerical and analytical results to construct a simple ansatz for the energy dynamical correlation function of the 1D antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model. This is applied to compute the phonon assisted absorption spectra of magnetic excitations (spinons) in quasi-one dimensional spin 1/2 insulators and show to reproduce very well recent infrared measurements in Sr$_2$CuO$_3$.

Using the Bond Operator Technique (BOT), we have studied the low energy excitationspectrum of a frustrated dimerized antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain. In particular, we have compared our analytical results with previous Exact Diagonalizations (ED) data. Qualitatively, the BOT results are in good agreement with the ED data. And even a very good quantitative agreement is obtained in some parameter region. It is clearly shown that there is only one elementary excitation branch...

Second-order spin-wave expansions are used to compute the ground-state energy and sublattice magnetizations of the quantum one-dimensional Heisenberg ferrimagnet with nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions and two types of alternating sublattice spins $S_1>S_2$. It is found that in the extreme quantum cases $(S_1,S_2)=(1,1/2)$, $(3/2,1)$, and $(3/2,1/2)$, the estimates for the ground-state energy and sublattice magnetizations differ less than 0.03% for the energy and...

We have studied the low-energy excitation spectrum of a dimerized and frustrated antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain. We use an analytic approach, based on a description of the excitations as triplets above a strong-coupling singlet ground state. The quasiparticle spectrum is calculated by treating the excitations as a dilute Bose gas with infinite on-site repulsion. Additional singlet (S=0) and triplet (S=1) modes are found as two-particle bound states of the elementary tripl...

Using Bethe-ansatz solutions, we uncover a well-defined continuum in dynamical structure factor $S^{+-}(k,\omega)$ of the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain in magnetic fields. It comes from string solutions which continuously connect the mode of the lowest-energy excitations in the zero-field limit and that of bound states of overturned spins from the ferromagnetic state near the saturation field. We confirm the relevance to real materials through comparisons with e...
