A first measurement is presented of exclusive photoproduction of $\rho^0$ mesons associated with leading neutrons at HERA. The data were taken with the H1 detector in the years $2006$ and $2007$ at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=319$ GeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $1.16$ pb$^{-1}$. The $\rho^0$ mesons with transverse momenta $p_T<1$ GeV are reconstructed from their decays to charged pions, while leading neutrons carrying a large fraction of the incomi...

We demonstrate how the virtual photoproduction of vector mesons on nuclei scans the wave function of vector mesons from the large non-perturbative transverse size $\rho \sim R_{V}$ down to the small perturbative size $\rho \sim 1/\sqrt{Q^{2}}$. Thee mechanism of scanning is based on color transparency and QCD predicted spatial wave function of quark-antiquark fluctuations of virtual photons. A rich, energy- and $Q^{2}$-dependent, pattern of the nuclear shadowing and antishado...

Double-spin asymmetries in the cross section of electroproduction of $\rho^0$ and $\phi$ mesons on the proton and deuteron are measured at the HERMES experiment. The photoabsorption asymmetry in exclusive $\rho^0$ electroproduction on the proton exhibits a positive tendency. This is consistent with theoretical predictions that the exchange of an object with unnatural parity contributes to exclusive $\rho^0$ electroproduction by transverse photons. The photoabsorption asymmetr...

We report the first measurement at the LHC of coherent photoproduction of $\rho^0$ mesons in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions. The invariant mass and transverse momentum distributions for $\rho^0$ production are studied in the $\pi^+ \pi^-$ decay channel at mid-rapidity. The production cross section in the rapidity range $|y|<0.5$ is found to be $\mathrm{d}\sigma/\mathrm{d}y = 425 \pm 10 \, (\mathrm{stat.})$ $^{+42}_{-50} \, (\mathrm{sys.})$ mb. Coherent $\rho^0$ production ...

We have measured the nuclear transparency of the A(e,e' pi^+) process in ^{2}H,^{12}C, ^{27}Al, ^{63}Cu and ^{197}Au targets. These measurements were performed at the Jefferson Laboratory over a four momentum transfer squared range Q^2 = 1.1 - 4.7 (GeV/c)^2. The nuclear transparency was extracted as the super-ratio of $(\sigma_A/\sigma_H)$ from data to a model of pion-electroproduction from nuclei without pi-N final state interactions. The Q^2 and atomic number dependence of ...

Measurements of the cross section for exclusive virtual-photoproduction of rho^0 mesons from hydrogen are reported. The data were collected by the HERMES experiment using 27.5 GeV positrons incident on a hydrogen gas target in the HERA storage ring. The invariant mass W of the photon-nucleon system ranges from 4.0 to 6.0 GeV, while the negative squared four-momentum Q^2 of the virtual photon varies from 0.7 to 5.0 GeV^2. The present data together with most of the previous dat...

40 years after its introduction, the phenomenon of color transparency remains a domain of controversial interpretations of experimental data. We review present evidence for or against its manifestation in various exclusive hard scattering reactions. The nuclear transparency experiments reveal whether short distance processes dominate a scattering amplitude at some given kinematical point. We plead for a new round of nuclear transparency measurements in a variety of experiment...

Production and decay angular distributions were extracted from measurements of exclusive electroproduction of the rho^0(770) meson over a range in the virtual photon negative four-momentum squared 0.5< Q^2 <4 GeV^2 and the photon-nucleon invariant mass range 3.8< W <6.5 GeV. The experiment was performed with the HERMES spectrometer, using a longitudinally polarized positron beam and a ^3He gas target internal to the HERA e^{+-} storage ring. The event sample combines rho^0 me...

This article presents the $A$-dependence of the differential cross section for the coherent electroproduction of vector mesons on nuclei in forward direction, at fixed values of longitudinal momentum transfer $q_{L}$. It is shown that such cross section has complicated behavior over the atomic mass number $A$ with local minimums and maximums. It is also shown that a ratio of the real to the imaginary parts of the forward coherent amplitude on nuclei $\alpha_{A} = \Re e{f_{A}}...
