We investigate the potential impact of forthcoming Jefferson Lab semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering proton measurements in the determination of the sea quark polarization in the nucleon by means of a next to leading order global QCD analysis. Specifically, we estimate the resulting improvement in the constraints on polarized parton densities for the different flavors, which is found to be significant for up and strange quarks, and the correlation between remai...

I review recent theoretical results on polarized deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering. Some specific issues, like $Q^2$ evolution of structure functions, the small $x$ behaviour, and the determination of polarized parton densities, are discussed in some detail.

We briefly recall the main physical features of the parton distributions in the quantum statistical picture of the nucleon. Some predictions from a next-to-leading order QCD analysis are compared to recent experimental results.

Spin properties of the nucleon are discussed based on the ongoing and planned measurements. Role, method and features of radiative corrections applied in the analyses are presented. Future prospects of the spin physics are reviewed.

We present recent progress on the study of the deep inelastic structure of nuclei that improves our current understanding of the mechanisms of nuclear modifications of parton distribution functions.

I present a determination of longitudinally-polarized parton distribution functions of the proton from inclusive deep-inelastic scattering data: NNPDFpol1.0+. This determination, based on the NNPDF methodology, upgrades a previous analysis, NNPDFpol1.0, in two respects: first, it includes all new data sets which have recently become available from the COMPASS experiment at CERN and from the E93-009, EG1-DVCS and E06-014 experiments at JLAB; second, it uses the state-of-the-ar...

We present a determination of a set of polarized parton distributions (PDFs) of the nucleon, at next-to-leading order, from a global set of longitudinally polarized deep-inelastic scattering data: NNPDFpol1.0. The determination is based on the NNPDF methodology: a Monte Carlo approach, with neural networks used as unbiased interpolants, previously applied to the determination of unpolarized parton distributions, and designed to provide a faithful and statistically sound repre...

We present a new global QCD analysis of nuclear parton distribution functions and their uncertainties. In addition to the most commonly analyzed data sets for the deep-inelastic scattering of charged leptons off nuclei and Drell-Yan di-lepton production, we include also measurements for neutrino-nucleus scattering and inclusive pion production in deuteron-gold collisions. The analysis is performed at next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative QCD in a general mass variabl...

In order to determine polarized parton distributions we have made a new NLO QCD fit using all experimental data on spin asymmetries measured in the deep inelastic scattering on different nucleon targets. The functional form of such densities is based on MRST 2001 results for unpolarized ones . We get for polarization of quarks (at Q^2 = 1 GeV^2): Delta u = 0.87, Delta d = -0.38, Delta s = -0.04. The total quark polarization is rather big and we obtain: Delta Sigma = 0.44. As ...

The higher twist corrections $h^N(x)/Q^2$ to the spin dependent proton and neutron structure functions $g_1^N(x, Q^2)$ are extracted in a model independent way from experimental data on $g_1^N$ and found to be non-negligible. It is shown that the NLO QCD polarized parton densities determined from the data on g1, including higher twist effects, are in good agreement with those found earlier from our analysis of the data on g1/F1 and A1 where higher twist effects are negligible...
