In the large $N_c$ limit, one can describe normal heavy baryons $Qqq$ and heavy pentaquarks $\bar Qqqqq$ as bound states of heavy mesons to chiral (anti)solitons. In this picture, the strong and electromagnetic decay parameters of these hadrons can be calculated from those of the constituent heavy mesons and light baryons, while the weak decay form factors can be evaluated analytically.

The bound state extension of Skyrme's topological soliton model for the heavy baryons is quantized canonically in arbitrary reducible representations of the SU(3) flavor group. The canonical quantization leads to an additional negative mass term, which stabilizes the quantized soliton solution. The heavy flavor meson in the field of the soliton is treated with semiclassical quantization. The representation dependence of the calculated spectra for the strange, charm and bottom...

The Skyrme model is reconsidered from an effective theory point of view. Starting with the most general Lagrangian up to including terms of order $p^4$, $N_c$ and $\delta m^2$ ($\delta m\equiv m_s-m$), we obtain new interactions, which have never been discussed in the literature. We obtain the parameter set best fitted to the low-lying baryon masses by taking into account the representation mixing up to $\bm{27}$. A prediction for the mainly anti-decuplet excited nucleon $N'$...

We perform a preliminary study of the 1/2+ and 3/2+ ground-state baryons containing a heavy quark in the framework of the chiral SU(3) quark model. By using the calculus of variations, masses of Lambda_Q, Sigma_Q, Xi_Q, Omega_Q, Sigma_Q^*, Xi_Q^* and Omega_Q^*, where Q means c or b quark, are calculated. With taking reasonable model parameters, the numerical results of established heavy baryons are generally in agreement with the available experimental data, except that those...

We illustrate the exotic SU(3) baryon sub-multiplets in the SU(4) baryon multiplets predicted from the flavor SU(4) collective-coordinate quantization, and investigate the exotic states with charm number $C=\pm1$ up to leading order of $1/N_c$ under chiral $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ symmetry and the heavy quark limit from bound state approach. We find that there exist the $\bar{15}$-plets and 24-plets with C=1 and the $\bar{6}$-plets, 15-plets and $15^{\prime}$-plets with $C=-1$...

The $\Sigma_c^*-\Sigma_c$ and $\Sigma_b^*-\Sigma_b$ hyperfine mass splittings are computed in the Skyrme model. The hyperfine splittings are suppressed by both $1/N_c$ and by $1/m_Q$, where $N_c$ is the number of colors and $m_Q$ is the mass of the heavy quark. The $\Sigma_c$, $\Sigma_c^*$, $\Sigma_b$, $\Sigma_b^*$, and $\Lambda_b$ masses are predicted in terms of the known values of the $\Lambda_c$, $D$, $D^*$, $B$ and $B^*$ masses.

In this review we report on advances in topological soliton models of the nucleon. In chapter I we construct an effective lagrangian of QCD with the low mass mesons ($\pi,\rho,A_1$ and the scalar meson $\epsilon$) generalising the Skyrme model. The vector meson fields are introduced as massive gauge fields in the linear sigma model and we look for topological soliton solutions of the model. The results for the nucleon-nucleon interaction show that the scalar degrees of freedo...

I discuss recent development on the description of heavy-quark (such as charmed and bottom) baryons as one or more heavy mesons "wrapped" by a skyrmion. Amazingly enough, such a description naturally arises when light-quark chiral symmetry and heavy-quark spin symmetry are incorporated in an effective Lagrangian. I interpret the resulting spectrum in terms of nonabelian induced (Berry) potentials in analogy to diatomic molecular systems.

$S$-wave bound-states composed of a nucleon($N$) and a heavy meson ($D$, $D^*$, $\bar{B}$ or $\bar{B}^*$) are investigated in both the chiral SU(3) quark model and the extended chiral SU(3) quark model by solving the resonating group method equation. The results reveal that the $ND$ and $ND^*$ interactions in the corresponding relative $S$-wave states are attractive, arising mainly from one boson exchange processes between light quarks. It is shown that these attractions are ...

We review applications of the Chiral Quark Soliton Model to heavy baryons and to doubly heavy tetraquarks.
