We present a phenomenological approach to the description of single transverse spin asymmetries (STSA) in inclusive hadron production. Measurements of single transverse spin asymmetries in high energy inclusive processes have always shown unexpected and challenging results. Several cases are considered and discussed within a QCD approach which couples perturbative dynamics to new non perturbative partonic information; the aim is that of developing a consistent phenomenological description of these unusual single spin phenomena, based on a generalized QCD factorization scheme.

It is pointed out that the existing models for the left-right asymmetries observed in single-spin inclusive hadron production processes can be differentiated experimentally. Several such experiments are proposed with which the basic assumptions of these models can be tested individually.

It is shown that, based only on two empirically known facts besides two reasonable theoretical postulates, we are inevitably led to a conclusion that the quark orbital angular momentum carries nearly half of the total nucleon spin. On the basis of the mechanism proposed earlier for one-spin asymmetries in inclusive hadron production we consider OZI--suppressed process of $\varphi$-meson production $pp\rightarrow \varphi X$ and asymmetry $A_N(\varphi)$ in this process. The main role in generation of this asymmetry belongs to the orbital angular momentum of strange quark-antiquark cloud in internal structure of constituent quarks.

We present a calculation of single and double spin asymmetries for inclusive hadron production in hadronic collisions. Our approach is based on Leading Order (LO) perturbative QCD and generalized factorization theorems, with full account of intrinsic parton momentum, k_T, effects. We investigate the single-spin asymmetries in inclusive and exclusive processes of electron-proton scattering and electron-positron annihilation.
