We suggest a method of constructing gauge invariant quark and gluon distributions that describe an abstract QCD observable and apply this method to analyze angular momentum of a hadron. In addition to the known quark and gluon polarized structure functions, we obtain gauge invariant distributions for quark and gluon orbital angular momenta, and consider some basic properties of these distributions and their moments.

We present an estimate of a chiral-odd contribution to the single transverse-spin asymmetry in the large-$p_T$ pion production in the nucleon-nucleon collision. In this contribution the transversity distribution and the chiral-odd spin-independent twist-3 distribution appear. Because of the smallness of the corresponding hard cross section, this term turned out to be negligible in all kinematic regions compared with the chiral-even contribution.

It is argued that the constituent quarks are expected to show a non-- trivial spin and flavor structure, due to the anomalous breaking of the chiral symmetry in the U(1) sector. CERN--TH.7079/93\\

Measurements of disoriented chiral condensates in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC can yield fundamental information on the nature of the QCD phase transition. I review theoretical efforts to understand the evolution of the condensate and present new results on experimental signals in the single pion spectrum and in pion interferometry. The basic ideas and some recent developments of the chiral perturbation theory approach to hadron dynamics at low-energies are reviewed. (Invited talk at the HADRON'93 Conference Como, Italy June 1993.)

Single transverse spin asymmetries in p-p -> pion + X and l-p -> l-pion + X processes have been observed; their possible origins and connections are investigated. A phenomenological description within a pQCD generalized factorization scheme is discussed.

I will summarize the numerous contributions which were presented in the session, Hadronic and Spin Physics, largely dominated by new experimental results.

Numerical evaluation of the path integral for QCD on a discrete space-time lattice has been used to calculate ground state matrix elements specifying moments of quark density and spin distributions. This talk will explain how these matrix elements have been calculated in full QCD using dynamical quarks, show how physical extrapolation to the chiral limit including the physics of the pion cloud resolves previous apparent conflicts with experiment, and describe the computationa...

Modern nuclear theory presents a fascinating study in contrasting approaches to the structure of hadrons and nuclei. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the treatment of the pion cloud. As this discussion really begins with Yukawa, it is entirely appropriate that this invited lecture at the Yukawa Institute in Kyoto should deal with the issue.

Asymmetries in the quark momentum distributions in the proton reveal fundamental aspects of strong interaction physics. Differences between u-bar and d-bar quarks in the proton sea provide insight into the dynamics of the pion cloud around the nucleon and the nature of chiral symmetry breaking. Polarized flavor asymmetries allow the effects of pion clouds to be disentangled from those of antisymmetrization. Asymmetries between s and s-bar quark distributions in the nucleon ar...
