Asymmetric e^+e^- colliders running on the \Upsilon(4S) (B factories) will much more readily measure CP-violating asymmetries in the decays of B_d^0 and B^\pm mesons than in the decays of B_s^0 mesons. As such, they will seemingly not be able to probe new phases in Bs-Bs(bar) mixing, i.e. in b\to s transitions. However, by measuring the CP angle \beta via b \to s hadronic penguin decays such as B_d^0 \to \eta'\ks and B_d^0 \to\phi\ks, and comparing its value to that obtained in B_d^0 \to\Psi\ks, it is possible to detect the presence of new physics in the b\to s flavour-changing neutral current. Recent CLEO results are encouraging in this regard. They suggest that the branching ratio of the b\to s penguin decay B_d^0 \to \eta'\ks is anomalously large, about 4 \times 10^{-5}, which will make it much easier to search for new physics in b\to s transitions.

Although recent experimental results in b-->s penguin process seem to be roughly consistent with the standard model predictions, there may be still large possibilities of new physics hiding in this processes. Therefore, here we investigate systematically the potential new physics effects that may appear in time-dependent CP asymmetries of B --> phi K^0, B--> eta^\prime K^0 and B--> K^0 \pi^0 decay modes, by classifying the cases for the values of the mixing-induced indirect C...

The decay $B^0_d \to D^+ D^-$ offers an interesting probe of CP violation, but requires control of penguin effects, which can be done through $B^0_s \to D^+_s D^-_s$ by means of the $U$-spin flavour symmetry of strong interactions. Recently, the Belle collaboration reported indications of large CP violation in the $B^0_d$ decay, which were, however, not confirmed by BaBar, and first signals of the $B^0_s$ channel were observed at the Tevatron. In view of these developments an...

CP-violating effects in decays of B mesons offer a wide spectrum of probes for testing the phase structure of the quark-flavour sector of the Standard Model. After a brief discussion of the picture emerging from the current LHC data, the focus will be put on two specific topics: hadronic uncertainties from penguin topologies on measurements of the $B^0_q$-$\bar B^0_q$ mixing phases ($q\in\{d,s\}$), and the U-spin-related decays $B^0_s\to K^+K^-$ and $B^0_d\to\pi^+\pi^-$. We present the new and updated $BABAR$ measurements of CP-violation studies for many $b\to s $ penguin decay modes. We report the first observation of mixing-induced CP-violation in $B^0 \to \eta ^{'} K^0$ with a significance (including systematic uncertainties) of 5.5$\sigma$. We also present the first observation of the decay $B^0 \to \rho ^0 K^0$. Using the time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^0\to K^+K^- K^0$ decay, the CP-parameters $\mathcal A_{CP}$ and $\beta_{eff...

Major new experimental efforts on detecting CP violation in $B$ decays will very soon go on the air. Recent developments suggest that final state interaction phases in exclusive decays of $B$ are unlikely to be small indicating the possibility of observable direct CP asymmetries in these channels. CLEO results on charmless hadronic modes suggest penguin amplitudes are rather big implying that the extraction of $\alpha$ from $B^0$-$\bar B^0$ alone will be difficult, thus neces...

The $B_s$-meson system is a key element in the $B$-physics programme of hadron colliders, offering various avenues to explore CP violation and to search for new physics. One of the most prominent decays is $B_s\to J/\psi\phi$, the counterpart of $B_d\to J/\psi K_S$, providing a powerful tool to search for new-physics contributions to $B^0_s$--$\bar{B^0_s}$ mixing. Another benchmark mode is $B_s\to K^+K^-$, which complements $B_d\to\pi^+\pi^-$, thereby allowing an extraction o...

The decays $B_d\to\pi^+\pi^-$ and $B_s\to K^+K^-$ provide an interesting strategy to extract the CKM angle $\gamma$ at ``second-generation'' $B$-physics experiments of the LHC era. A variant for ``first-generation'' experiments can be obtained, if $B_s\to K^+K^-$ is replaced by $B_d\to\pi^\mp K^\pm$. We show that the most recent experimental results for the CP-averaged $B_d\to\pi^+\pi^-$ and $B_d\to\pi^\mp K^\pm$ branching ratios imply a rather restricted range for the corres...

We present measurements on penguin dominated B decays which are sensitive to new physics, such as CP-violation parameters and branching fractions in $b \to s q\bar{q}$ and $b \to d q\bar{q}$ gluonic and radiative decays using a large sample of $B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Over the last two decades, $B \to \pi K$ modes have received a lot of attention. They are particularly interesting since the main contribution to these decays comes from QCD penguin topologies. Furthermore, electroweak penguin amplitudes enter at a level comparable to the tree topologies. In the past, a discrepancy was found in the correlation between the CP asymmetries of $B_d^0 \to \pi^0 K_{\rm S}$. We provide the state-of-the-art picture of this situation and consider new ...

A method to extract Standard Model(SM) CP phases involving B decays is presented. The method involves a pair of decays where one decay receives a significant $b \to d$ penguin contribution while the second has a significant $b \to s$ penguin contribution, but is dominated by a single amplitude. SM CP phase information is obtained using the fact that the $b \to s$ transition amplitude is related by SU(3) to a piece of the amplitude with the $b \to d$ transition. If there is si...
