The kinetic energy variation of emitted light clusters has been employed as a clock to explore the time evolution of the temperature for thermalizing composite systems produced in the reactions of 26A, 35A and 47A MeV $^{64}$Zn with $^{58}$Ni, $^{92}$Mo and $^{197}$Au. Particle production and correlation functions from Au+Au reactions have been measured as a function of both beam energy (2-10.7AGeV) and impact parameter. These results are used to probe the dynamics of heavy-ion reactions, confront hadronic models over a wide range of conditions and to search for the onset of new phenomena.

Nuclear temperatures obtained from inclusive measurements of double isotopic yield ratios of fragments produced in 1 GeV p + A collisions amount to about 4 MeV nearly independent from the target mass.

We show that the qualitative behavior of the nuclear caloric curve can be inferred from the energy dependence of the isoscaling parameters. Since there are strong indications that the latter are not distorted by the secondary decay of primary hot fragments, in contrast to other observables, this suggests that valuable information on the nuclear caloric curve may be obtained through the analysis presented in this work.

Experimental data from the reaction of an 8.0 GeV/c pi- beam incident on a 197Au target have been analyzed in order to investigate the integrated breakup time scale for hot residues. We discuss different aspects which could influence temperatures deduced from experimental isotopic yields in the multifragmentation process.
