We report properties of $\Lambda$ and $\Sigma$ hyperon resonances formed in $K^-$ induced reactions. Special emphasis is laid on the analysis of the three-body final states $2\pi^0\Lambda$ and $2\pi^0\Sigma$ and of the quasi-two-body final states $\pi\Lambda(1520)$, $\bar K\Delta(1232)$, $\pi\Sigma(1385)$, $\bar K^*N$, and $\omega\Lambda$. The lifetime of the Lambda hyperon in heavy hypernuclei as measured by the COSY-13 Collaboration in proton - Au, Bi and U collisions has been analysed to yield tau(Lambda) = (145 +- 11) ps. This value for tau(Lambda) is compatible with the lifetime extracted from antiproton annihilation on Bi and U targets, however, much more accurate. We find that the dependence of the lifetime tau(Lambda) on the mass of hypernuclei indicates a violation of the phenomenological Delta I = 1/2...

Conflicting values of the hypertriton lifetime $\tau({}_\Lambda^3\mathrm{H})$ were derived in relativistic heavy ion (RHI) collision experiments over the last decade. Because of Pauli suppression effects the $N\pi$ decay of the free $\Lambda$ is not of importance in hypernuclei with $A\geq 10$. Rather the decay of such hypernuclei proceeds via the nucleon-stimulated mode $\Lambda N\rightarrow NN$, analysis of which presents a considerable theoretical challenge and about which there exists only a limited amount of experimental information. Herein we confront existing data wih various theoretical analyses which have been developed.

We calculate the $\Lambda \Lambda \to YN$ transition rate of ${^{\phantom{\Lambda}6}_{\Lambda \Lambda}}$He by the hybrid picture, the $\pi$ and $K$ exchanges plus the direct quark processes. We investigate the hyperon-nucleon interactions in the QCD sum rule starting from the nucleon matrix element of the hyperon correlation function. Through the dispersion relation, the correlation function in the operator product expansion (OPE) is related with its integral over the physical energy region. The $\Lambda N$ and $\Sigma N$ interactions are considered at next-to-leading order in SU(3) chiral effective field theory. Different options for the low-energy constants that determine the strength of the contact interactions are explored.
