We report a precise measurement of the hyperfine interval in the ${2P}_{1/2}$ state of $^{7}$Li. The transition from the ground state ($D_1$ line) is accessed using a diode laser and the technique of saturated-absorption spectroscopy in hot Li vapor. The interval is measured by locking an acousto-optic modulator to the frequency difference between the two hyperfine peaks. The measured interval of 92.040(6)~MHz is consistent with an earlier measurement reported by us using an ...

Electro-optic frequency combs with tooth spacings as low as 100 Hz were employed to probe electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and hyperfine pumping in rubidium and potassium vapor cells. From the potassium EIT transition we were able to determine the ground state hyperfine splitting with a fit uncertainty of 8 Hz. Importantly, because of the mutual coherence between the control and probe beams, which originate from a single laser, features with linewidths several o...

Photonic integrated resonators stand out as reliable frequency converters due to their compactness and stability, with second-harmonic generation (SHG) efficiencies of up to 17000%/W reported recently in aluminum nitride microrings. In this work, a sufficiently strong second-harmonic (SH) signal up to microwatts was generated by a photonic integrated frequency doubler using a milliwatt infrared (IR) laser source. Furthermore, increased SHG bandwidth covering $^{85}$Rb and $^{...

We report an experimental study of near resonance light scattering on the $F = 1 \rightarrow F' = 0$ component of the $D_2$ line in atomic $^{87}Rb$. Experiments are performed on spatially bi-Gaussian ultracold gas samples having peak densities ranging from about $5 \cdot 10^{12} - 5 \cdot 10^{13}$ atoms/cm$^{3}$ and for a range of resonance saturation parameters and detunings from atomic resonance. Time resolution of the scattered light intensity reveals dynamics of multiple...

We present measurements of the hyperfine coefficients and isotope shifts of the Dy I $683.731 $nm transition, using saturated absorption spectroscopy on an atomic beam. A King Plot is drawn resulting in an updated value for the specific mass shift $\delta \nu_\mathrm{684,sms}^\mathrm{164-162}=-534 \pm 17 MHz$. Using fluorescence spectroscopy we measure the excited state lifetime $\tau_{684}=1.68(5) \mu$s, yielding a linewidth of $\gamma_\mathrm{684} = 95 \pm 3 kHz$. We give a...

Vapour cell spectroscopy is an essential technique in many fields; in particular, nearly all atom and ion trapping experiments rely on simultaneous spectroscopy of two atomic transitions, traditionally employing separate apparatus for each transition. Here, we demonstrate simultaneous spectroscopy on two atomic transitions using spatially-overlapped beams from two independent lasers, within a single spectroscopic apparatus. We show that, in addition to aiding compactness, thi...

We demonstrate a technique for directly measuring the fine-structure interval in alkali atoms using two frequency-stabilized diode lasers. Each laser has a linewidth of order 1 MHz and precise tunability: one laser is tuned to a hyperfine transition in the D_1 line, and the other laser to a hyperfine transition in the D_2 line. The outputs of the lasers are fed into a scanning Michelson interferometer that measures the ratio of their wavelengths accurately. To illustrate the ...

We report an experimental comparison of three-photon-absorption resonances (known as "N-resonances") for the D_1 and D_2 optical transitions of thermal 87Rb vapor. We find that the D_2 N-resonance has better contrast, a broader linewidth, and a more symmetric lineshape than the D_1 N-resonance. Taken together, these factors imply superior performance for frequency standards operating on alkali D_2 N-resonances, in contrast to coherent population trapping (CPT) resonances for ...

We demonstrate two techniques for studying the features of three-level systems driven by two lasers (called control and probe), when the transitions are Doppler broadened as in room-temperature vapor. For $\Lambda$-type systems, the probe laser is split to produce a counter-propagating pump beam that saturates the transition for the zero-velocity atoms. Probe transmission then shows Doppler-free peaks, which can even have sub-natural linewidth. For V-type systems, the transmi...

In this Letter we experimentally demonstrate the generation of squeezed, bright twin beams which arise due to competing gain and absorption, in a medium that is overall transparent. To accomplish this, we make use of a non-degenerate four-wave mixing process in warm potassium vapor, such that one of the twin beams experiences strong on-resonant absorption. At room temperature and above, due to Doppler broadening and smaller frequency detunings compared to other schemes, the g...
