This is a short, self-contained expository survey, focused on algebraic and analytic aspects of quantum groups. Topics covered include the definition of ``quantum group,'' the Yang-Baxter equation, quantized universal enveloping algebras, representations of braid groups, the KZ equations and the Kohno-Drinfeld theorem, and finally compact quantum groups and the analogue of Haar measure for compact quantum groups.

The algebraic formulation of the quantum group covariant noncommutative geometry in the framework of the $R$-matrix approach to the theory of quantum groups is given. We consider structure groups taking values in the quantum groups and introduce the notion of the noncommutative connections and curvatures transformed as comodules under the "local" coaction of the structure group which is exterior extension of $GL_{q}(N)$. These noncommutative connections and curvatures generat...

This is an introduction to some of the analytic (or integrable systems) aspects of quantum cohomology which have attracted much attention during the last few years. The small quantum cohomology algebra, regarded as an example of a Frobenius manifold, is described in the original naive manner, without going into the technicalities of a rigorous definition. Then three well known analytic phenomena related to quantum cohomology are reviewed: the Landau-Ginzburg description of co...

These notes reflect the contents of three lectures given at the workshop of the 14th International Conference on Representations of Algebras (ICRA XIV), held in August 2010 in Tokyo. We first provide an introduction to quantum loop algebras and their finite-dimensional representations. We explain in particular Nakajima's geometric description of the irreducible q-characters in terms of graded quiver varieties. We then present a recent attempt to understand the tensor structur...

In this paper, using the quantum McKay correspondence, we construct the "derived category" of G-equivariant sheaves on the quantum projective line at a root of unity. More precisely, we use the representation theory of U_{q}sl(2) at root of unity to construct an analogue of the symmetric algebra and the structure sheaf. The analogue of the structure sheaf is, in fact, a complex, and moreover it is a dg-algebra. Our derived category arises via a triangulated category of G-equi...

This article is an elaboration of a talk given at an international conference on Operator Theory, Quantum Probability, and Noncommutative Geometry held during December~20--23, 2004, at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. The lecture was meant for a general audience, and also prospective research students, the idea of the quantum cohomology based on the Gromov--Witten invariants. Of course there are many important aspects that are not discussed here.

These lectures given in Montreal in Summer 1997 are mainly based on, and form a condensed survey of, the book by N. Chriss and V. Ginzburg: `Representation Theory and Complex Geometry', Birkhauser 1997. Various algebras arising naturally in Representation Theory such as the group algebra of a Weyl group, the universal enveloping algebra of a complex semisimple Lie algebra, a Quantum group or the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of bi-invariant functions (under convolution) on a p-adic...

The rational quantized Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation (qKZ equation) associated with the Lie algebra $sl_2$ is a system of linear difference equations with values in a tensor product of $sl_2$ Verma modules. We solve the equation in terms of multidimensional $q$-hypergeometric functions and define a natural isomorphism between the space of solutions and the tensor product of the corresponding quantum group $U_q(sl_2)$ Verma modules, where the parameter $q$ is related to the ...

We study the cohomological Hall algebra Y of a lagrangian substack of the moduli stack of representations of the preprojective algebra of an arbitrary quiver Q, and their actions on the cohomology of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that Y is pure and we compute its Poincare polynomials in terms of (nilpotent) Kac polynomials. We also provide a family of algebra generators. We conjecture that Y is equal, after a suitable extension of scalars, to the Yangian introduced by M...
