Using the density matrix renormalization group technique, we calculate numerically the low energy excitation spectrum and magnetization curve of the spin-1 antiferromagnetic chain in a staggered magnetic field, which is expected to describe the physics of $R_2 Ba Ni O_5 (R \neq Y) $ family below the N\'eel temperature of the magnetic rare-earth ($R$) sublattice. These results are valid in the entire range of the staggered field, and agree with those given by the non-linear $\...

We propose an effective theory for the critical phase of a quantum ferrimagnetic chain with alternating spins 1 and 1/2 in an external magnetic field. With the help of the matrix product variational approach, the system is mapped to a spin-1/2 XXZ chain in an (effective) magnetic field; as a byproduct, we obtain an excellent description of the optical magnon branch in the gapped phase. Recent finite-temperature DMRG results for the low-temperature part of the specific heat ar...

We obtain a new multiple integral representation for the spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ spin-1/2 infinite chain. We show that this representation is closely related with the partition function of the six-vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions.

The spin-1/2 quantum anisotropic XY spin chain in a transverse random magnetic field parallel to the z axis is numerically studied by means of the density-matrix renormalization group. The dependence of the spontaneous magnetization and the energy gap on both the strength of the random magnetic field and the factor of anisotropy is determined. The critical line for the order-disorder phase transition is obtained and the resulting phase diagram is drawn. Our results are compat...

We consider the ground-state phase diagram of a one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ chain with spatially modulated Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in the presence of applied along with the $\hat{z}$ axis alternating magnetic field. The model is studied using the continuum-limit bosonization approach and the finite system exact numerical technique. In the absence of the magnetic field, the ground-state phase diagram of the model includes besides the ferromagnetic and gapless Luttig...

In this first paper, we start the analysis of correlation functions of quantum spin chains with general integrable boundary conditions. We initiate these computations for the open XXX spin 1/2 quantum chains with some unparallel magnetic fields allowing for a spectrum characterization in terms of homogeneous Baxter like TQ-equations, in the framework of the quantum separation of variables (SoV). Previous SoV analysis leads to the formula for the scalar products of the so-call...

In this article, we present new results of high-order coupled cluster method (CCM) calculations, based on a N\'eel model state with spins aligned in the $z$-direction, for both the ground- and excited-state properties of the spin-half {\it XXZ} model on the linear chain, the square lattice, and the simple cubic lattice. In particular, the high-order CCM formalism is extended to treat the excited states of lattice quantum spin systems for the first time. Completely new results...

We present new results and give a concise review of recent previous results on the asymptotics for large spin of the low-lying spectrum of the ferromagnetic XXZ Heisenberg chain with kink boundary conditions. Our main interest is to gain detailed information on the interface ground states of this model and the low-lying excitations above them. The new and most detailed results are obtained using a rigorous version of bosonization, which can be interpreted as a quantum central...

The Jordan-Wigner transformation is applied to study magnetic properties of the quantum spin-1/2 $XX$ model on the diamond chain. Generally, the Hamiltonian of this quantum spin system can be represented in terms of spinless fermions in the presence of a gauge field and different gauge-invariant ways of assigning the spin-fermion transformation are considered. Additionally, we analyze general properties of a free-fermion chain, where all gauge terms are neglected and discuss ...

We present a series representation for the dynamical two-point function of the local spin current for the XXZ chain in the antiferromagnetic massive regime at zero temperature. From this series we can compute the correlation function with very high accuracy up to very long times and large distances. Each term in the series corresponds to the contribution of all scattering states of an even number of excitations. These excitations can be interpreted in terms of an equal number...
