We have considered a numerical scheme for the calculation of the equilibrium properties of spin-1/2 XY chains. Within its frames it is necessary to solve in the last resort only the 2N\times 2N eigenvalue and eigenvector problem but not the 2^N\times 2^N one as for an arbitrary system consisting of N spins 1/2. To illustrate the approach we have presented some new results. Namely, the xx dynamic structure factor for the Ising model in transverse field, the density of states f...

We study the interplay between a (quasi) periodic coupling array and an external magnetic field in a spin-1/2 XXZ chain. A new class of magnetization plateaux are obtained by means of Abelian bosonization methods which give rise to a sufficient quantization condition. The investigation of magnetic phase diagrams via exact diagonalization of finite clusters finds a complete agreement with the continuum treatment in a variety of situations.

Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method, and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem for local spins, we obtain multiple integral representations of the $n$-point correlation functions of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-$1 \over 2$ chain in a constant magnetic field. For zero magnetic field, this result agrees, in both the massless and massive (anti-ferromagnetic) regimes, with the one obtained from the q-deformed KZ equations (massless regime) and the representation t...

In the study of entanglement in a spin chain, people often consider the nearest-neighbor spins. The motivation is the prevailing role of the short range interactions in creating quantum correlation between the 1st neighbor (1N) spins. Here, we address the same question between farther neighbor spins. We consider the one-dimensional (1D) spin-1/2 XY model in a magnetic field. Using the fermionization approach, we diagonalize the Hamiltonian of the system. Then, we provide th...

We study the magnetic properties of two types of one dimensional XX spin 1/2 chains. The first type has only nearest neighbor interactions which can be either antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic and the second type which has both nearest neighbor and next nearest neighbor interactions, but only antiferromagnetic in character. We study these systems in the presence of low transverse magnetic fields both analytically and numerically. Comparison of results show a close relation b...

We study the ground-state spin correlations in the gapless incommensurate regime of a S=1/2 XXZ chain and a two-leg antiferromagnetic ladder under a magnetic field, in which the gapless excitations form a Tomonaga-Luttinger (TL) liquid. We calculate numerically the two-spin correlation functions and the local magnetization in the two models using the density-matrix renormalization-group method. By fitting the numerical results for an open XXZ chain of 100 spins to correlation...

Using a similarity Hamiltonian renormalization procedure, we determine an effective spin-1/2 representation of the Bose-Hubbard model at half-integer filling and at a finite on-site interaction energy U. By means of bosonization, we are able to recast the effective Hamiltonian as that of a spin-1/2 XXZ magnetic chain with pertinently renormalized coupling and anisotropy parameters. We use this mapping to provide analytical estimates of the correlation functions of the Bose-Hu...

The infinite Heisenberg XXZ spin-(1/2) chain in the gapped antiferromagnetic regime has two degenerate vacua and kink topological excitations (which are also called spinons) interpolating between these vacua as elementary excitations. Application of an arbitrary weak staggered longitudinal magnetic field h induces a long-range attractive potential between two adjacent spinons leading to their confinement into 'meson' bound states. Exploiting the integrability of the XXZ model...

Using algebraic Bethe ansatz and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem, we compute compact representations of the spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ-1/2 Heisenberg chain in a magnetic field. At lattice distance m, they are typically given as the sum of m terms. Each term n of this sum, n = 1,...,m is represented in the thermodynamic limit as a multiple integral of order 2n+1; the integrand depends on the distance as the power m of some simple function...

A recent numerical study of short chains found near-perfect quantum state transfer between the boundary sites of a spin-1/2 XX chain if a sufficiently strong magnetic field acts on these sites. We show that the phenomenon is based on a pair of states strongly localized at the boundaries of the system and provide a simple quantitative analytical explanation.
