The synthesis of SrRuO3 under high-pressure oxygen produces a nonstoichiometric form with randomly distributed vacancies on the Ru-sites, along with a significantly reduced ferromagnetic ordering temperature. In order to gain additional insight into the suppression of the ferromagnetism, local studies utilizing 99,101 Ru zero-field spin-echo NMR, and Ru K-edge XAFS, along with complimentary magnetization and x-ray diffraction measurements, have been carried out on samples of ...

Pressure evolution of the crystal structure and magnetism of the honeycomb $\alpha$-RuBr$_3$ is studied using high-pressure x-ray diffraction, magnetometry, and density-functional band-structure calculations. Hydrostatic compression transforms antiferromagnetic $\alpha$-RuBr$_3$ ($R\bar 3$) into paramagnetic $\alpha'$-RuBr$_3$ ($P\bar 1$) where short Ru-Ru bonds cause magnetism collapse above 1.3 GPa at 0 K and 2.5 GPa at 295 K. Below this critical pressure, the N\'eel temper...

We present high pressure diamond anvil cell synchrotron X-ray, resistivity, and ac-susceptibility measurements on electron-doped cuprate Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ to much higher pressures than previously reported. At 2.72 GPa between 88 and 98$%$ of the superconducting T$^\prime$ phase \cite{Tprime} of the optimally doped Pr$_{1.85}$Ce$_{0.15}$CuO$_{4}$ transforms into the insulating phase T. The T$_{c}$ of the remaining 2-12$%$ T$^\prime$ phase is suppressed continuously f...

The effect of hydrostatic pressure up to 2 GPa on the superconductiong transitions in La{2-x}Sr{x}CuO{4+delta} is investigated. The ambient and high pressure properties of two series of samples with x=0 and x=0.015 and 0<delta<0.1 are characterized and compared by ac-susceptibility measurements. At ambient pressure both sets of samples fit into the same phase diagram as a function of the total hole concentration, n_h. For n_h<0.085 there is a single superconducting transition...

Experiments under hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure serve not only as a guide in the synthesis of materials with superior superconducting properties but also allow a quantitative test of theoretical models. In this chapter the pressure dependence of the superconducting properties of elemental, binary, and multi-atom superconductors are explored, with an emphasis on those exhibiting relatively high values of the transition temperature Tc. In contrast to the vast majority of su...

The crystal lattice of Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ is investigated with synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction under hydrostatic pressures up to $P=43$ GPa and temperatures down to $20$ K. The tetragonal unit cell is maintained over the whole investigated pressure range, within our resolution and sensitivity. The $c$-axis compressibility $\kappa_c(P,T) \equiv -({1} / {c}) ({d c} / {d P})$ presents an anomaly with pressure at $P_1=17$ GPa at fixed $T=20$ K that is not observed at $T=300$ K, w...

We report a combined experimental and theoretical study of the dependence of the superconductivity of the unconventional superconductor Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ on anisotropic strain. Novel piezoelectric apparatus is used to apply uniaxial pressures of up to $\sim$1~GPa along a $\langle 100 \rangle$ direction ($a$-axis) of the crystal lattice. $T_c$ increases from 1.5~K in unstrained material to 3.4~K at compression by $\approx$0.6\%, then falls steeply. The $c$-axis upper critical fiel...

We present a systematic pressure study of poly- and single crystalline SrFe2As2 by electrical resistivity and X-ray diffraction measurements. SrFe2As2 exhibits a structural phase transition from a tetragonal to an orthorhombic phase at T0=205 K. The structural phase transition is intimately linked to a spin-density-wave transition taking place at the same temperature. Our pressure experiments show that T0 shifts to lower temperatures with increasing pressure. We can estimate ...

We measured the electrical resistivity and ac magnetic susceptibility of BaFe2As2 and SrFe2As2 single crystals under pressure using a cubic anvil apparatus. For BaFe2As2, the antiferromagnetic (AF) and structural transitions are suppressed with increasing pressure. Unexpectedly, these transitions persist up to 8 GPa, and no signature of a superconducting transition was observed in the pressure range investigated here. On the other hand, the AF and structural transitions of Sr...

The superconducting and structural properties of elemental strontium metal were investigated under pressures up to 60 GPa while maintaining cryogenic conditions during pressure application. Applying pressure at low temperatures reveals differences in superconducting and structural phases compared to previous reports obtained at room temperatures. Notably, the superconducting critical temperature exhibits a twofold increase under compression after cryogenic cooling within the ...
