Muon spin relaxation ($\mu$SR) measurements were carried out on SrDy$_2$O$_4$, a frustrated magnet featuring short range magnetic correlations at low temperatures. Zero-field muon spin depolarization measurements demonstrate that fast magnetic fluctuations are present from $T=300$ K down to 20 mK. The coexistence of short range magnetic correlations and fluctuations at $T=20$ mK indicates that SrDy$_2$O$_4$ features a spin liquid ground state. Large longitudinal fields affect...

The disordered pyrochlore oxide Dy$_{2}$Zr$_{2}$O$_{7}$ shows the signatures of field-induced spin freezing with remnant zero-point spin-ice entropy at 5 kOe magnetic field. We have performed zero-field and longitudinal field Muon spin relaxation ($\mu$SR) studies on Dy$_{2}$Zr$_{2}$O$_{7}$. Our zero field studies reveal the absence of both long-range ordering and spin freezing down to 62 mK. The $\mu$SR relaxation rate exhibits a temperature-independent plateau below 4 K, in...

We report $^{139}$La nuclear magnetic resonance studies performed on a La$_{1.875}$Ba$_{0.125}$CuO$_4$ single crystal. The data show that the structural phase transitions (high-temperature tetragonal $\rightarrow$ low-temperature orthorhombic $\rightarrow$ low-temperature tetragonal phase) are of the displacive type in this material. The $^{139}$La spin-lattice relaxation rate $T_1^{-1}$ sharply upturns at the charge-ordering temperature $T_\text{CO}$ = 54 K, indicating that ...

Muon spin relaxation measurements around the 25 K metal-insulator transition in Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ elucidate a profound role of disorder as a possible mechanism for this transition. The relaxation rate $1/T_1$ and the muon Knight shift are incompatible with the transition to a SDW state and thus exclude it.

Magnetic frustration and disorder are key ingredients to prevent the onset of magnetic order. In the disordered hexagonal double perovskite BaTi$_{1/2}$Mn$_{1/2}$O$_{3}$, Mn$^{4+}$ cations, with $S=3/2$ spins, can either form highly correlated states of magnetic trimers or dimers or remain as weakly interacting orphan spins. At low temperature ($T$), the dimer response is negligible, and magnetism is dominated by the trimers and orphans. To explore the role of magnetic frustr...

We report results of muon spin relaxation and rotation ($\mu$SR) experiments on the spin-liquid candidate~YbMgGaO$_{4}$. No static magnetism $\gtrsim 0.003\mu_B$ per Yb ion, ordered or disordered, is observed down to 22~mK, a factor of two lower in temperature than previous measurements. Persistent (temperature-independent) spin dynamics are observed up to 0.20~K and at least 1~kOe, thus extending previous zero-field $\mu$SR results over a substantial region of the $H$-$T$ ph...

Magnetic properties of a one-dimensional frustrated quantum spin system Rb2Cu2Mo3O12 is investigated by the muon spin relaxation (muSR) technique. Although this system shows an incommensurate spin correlation in neutron scattering, it has not yet been determined whether the ground state reaches to a nonmagnetic spin-singlet state or not. In this study, our zero-field (ZF) muSR result undoubtedly reveals a nonmagnetic ground state, which establishes formation of the nonmagneti...

Muon spin relaxation ($\mu$SR) and magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed on the pure and diluted spin 1/2 kagom\'{e} system (Cu$_x$Zn$_{1-x}$)$_{3}$V$_{2}$O$_7$(OH)$_{2}$ 2H$_2$O. In the pure $x=1$ system we found a slowing down of Cu spin fluctuations with decreasing temperature towards $T \sim 1$ K, followed by slow and nearly temperature-independent spin fluctuations persisting down to $T$ = 50 mK, indicative of quantum fluctuations. No indication of sta...

The magnetic behavior and effects of oxygen-reduction annealing on the magnetism of T'-structured R2CuO4 (R = Eu and Nd), which is the parent compound of electron-doped cuprate superconductors, have been investigated from muon spin rotation (muSR) measurements. In the muon time spectra of as-sintered R2CuO4, an oscillation component with a small amplitude and a dominant exponential-type decay component were observed for the temperature range between 150 K and TN1 (=250-270 K)...

A systematic muon-spin-relaxation study in Bi-2201 high-Tc cuprates has revealed for the first time that the Cu-spin correlation (CSC) is developed at low temperatures below 2 K in a wide range of hole concentration where superconductivity appears. The CSC tends to become weak gradually with increasing hole-concentration. Moreover, CSC has been enhanced through the 3% substitution of Zn for Cu. These results are quite similar to those observed in La-214 high-Tc cuprates. Acco...
