Using a relativistic effective Lagrangian at the hadronic level, near-threshold $\omega$ and $\phi$ meson productions in proton proton ($pp$) collisions, $p p \to p p \omega/\phi$, are studied within the distorted wave Born approximation. Both initial and final state $pp$ interactions are included. In addition to total cross section data, both $\omega$ and $\phi$ angular distribution data are used to constrain further the model parameters. For the $p p \to p p \omega$ reactio...

The first measurement of the p n -> d omega total cross section has been achieved at mean excess energies of Q = 28 and 57 MeV by using a deuterium cluster-jet target. The momentum of the fast deuteron was measured in the ANKE spectrometer at COSY-Juelich and that of the slow "spectator" proton p(sp) from the p d -> p(sp) d omega reaction in a silicon telescope placed close to the target. The cross sections lie above those measured for p p -> p p omega but seem to be below th...

Two-step mechanisms in the $N\bar{N}$ annihilation and their role in the OZI rule violating reactions are discussed. In particular the two meson rescattering mechanism for $\pi\phi$ channel including all off-shell effects is typically two orders of magnitude bigger than the OZI tree level expectation and explains the observed ratio $\phi \pi/\omega \pi$ in the annihilation at rest. The rates for the final states including photons, $\gamma\omega$ and $\gamma\phi$, can be expla...

We analyze the total cross section data for $pp \to pp\omega$ near threshold measured recently at SATURNE. Using an effective range approximation for the on-shell $pp$ S-wave final state interaction we extract from these data the modulus $|\Omega| = 0.53$ fm$^4$ of the threshold transition amplitude $\Omega$. We present a calculation of various (tree-level) meson exchange diagrams contributing to $\Omega$. It is essential that $\omega$-emission from the anomalous $\omega\rho\...

We analyze the production of $\phi$ mesons in $\pi N$ and NN reactions in the near-threshold region, using throughout the conventional ``non-strange'' dynamics based on such processes which are allowed by the non-ideal $\omega-\phi$ mixing. We show that the occurrence of the direct $\phi NN$ interaction may show up in different unpolarized and polarization observables in $\pi N\to N\phi$ reactions. We find a strong non-trivial difference between observables in the reactions $...

The pi^- p -> omega n threshold cross section measured in the seventies resisted up to now a consistent theoretical description in line with experiment, mainly caused by too large Born contributions. This led to a discussion in the literature about the correctness of the extraction of these data points. We show that the extraction method used in these references is indeed correct and that there is no reason to doubt the correctness of these data.

The production of $\phi$-mesons in proton-proton collisions is investigated within a relativistic meson-exchange model of hadronic interactions. The experimental prerequisites for extracting the $NN\phi$ coupling strength from this reaction are discussed. In the absence of a sufficient set of data, which would enable an accurate determination of the $NN\phi$ coupling strength, we perform a combined analysis, based on some reasonable assumptions, of the existing data for both ...

The production of omega-mesons in the pp->pp omega reaction has been investigated with the COSY-ANKE spectrometer for excess energies of 60 and 92MeV by detecting the two final protons and reconstructing their missing mass. The large multipion background was subtracted using an event-by-event transformation of the proton momenta between the two energies. Differential distributions and total cross sections were obtained after careful studies of possible systematic uncertaintie...

The production of the light vector mesons $V = \rho, \omega, \phi$ in the reactions $\pi N \to V N$ and $N N \to V N N$ near threshold is studied. The subsequent electromagnetic decay $V \to \gamma^* \to e^+ e^-$ is particularly suited for exploring subthreshold $\omega N$ resonances.

We discuss the near-threshold behavior of the $\omega$ production amplitude in the reaction $\pi^-p \to \omega n$. In contrast to the results of earlier analyses we find that the averaged squared matrix element of the production amplitude must be a decreasing function of energy in order to describe the existing experimental data.
