We study the absorption of monochromatic electromagnetic plane waves impinging upon a Kerr black hole, in the general case that the direction of incidence is not aligned with the black hole spin axis. We present numerical results that are in accord with low- and high-frequency approximations. We find that circularly-polarized waves are distinguished by the black hole spin, with counter-rotating polarizations being more absorbed than co-rotating polarizations. At low frequenci...

We consider effects of non-uniformity of quasi-spherical small black hole horizons on scattering massless spineless particles in the long-wave approximation. Focusing on 4D flat and AdS neutral black hole backgrounds with conformally spherical geometry of the horizon, we observe the notable differences in compare to the scattering process on the spherically-symmetric black holes. In particular, the absorption cross-section becomes dependent on both, polar and azimuthal, spher...

In this work, we investigate the scattering of massless plane scalar waves by the high dimensional noncommutative Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black hole. We use the partial wave approach to determine the scattering and absorption cross sections in the incident wavelength range. Our numerical results demonstrate that the bigger the noncommutative parameter, the smaller the maximum value of the related partial absorption cross section, however the tendency is slightly. We also di...

We have analyzed in detail the propagation of a minimally coupled massless scalar field in the gravitational background of a four-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld dilaton charged black hole. We have obtained analytical expressions for the absorption cross section as well as for the decay rate for the scalar field in the aforementioned spacetime, and we have shown graphically its behavior for different values of the free parameters of the theory.

Accurate and powerful computational methods developed by the author for the wave scattering by black holes allow to obtain the highly non trivial total absorption spectrum of the Black Hole. As well as partial wave phase shifts and cross sections (elastic and inelastic), the angular distribution of absorbed and scattered waves, and the Hawking emission rates. The exact total absorption spectrum of waves by the Black Hole has as a function of frequency a remarkable oscillatory...

Motivated by black hole experiments as a consequence of the TeV-scale gravity arising from modern brane-world scenarios, we study the absorption problem for the massive scalars when the spacetime background is a $(4+n)$-dimensional Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m black hole. For analytic computation we adopt the near-extreme condition in the spacetime background. It is shown that the low-energy absorption cross section for the s-wave case holds an universality, {\it i.e.} the absorpti...

We investigate the low-frequency absorption cross section of the electromagnetic waves for the extreme Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in higher dimensions. We first construct the exact solutions to the relevant wave equations in the zero-frequency limit. In most cases it is possible to use these solutions to find the transmission coefficients of partial waves in the low-frequency limit. We use these transmission coefficients to calculate the low-frequency absorption cross sec...

Accretion of fields by black holes is a subject of great interest in physics. It is known that accretion plays a fundamental role in active galactic nuclei and in the evolution of black holes. Accretion of fundamental fields is often related to the study of absorption cross section. Basically all black holes for which absorption of fields has been studied so far present singularities. However, even within general relativity, it is possible to construct regular black holes: ob...

We perform the perturbation analysis of the black holes in the 4D, N=4 supergravity. Analysis around the black holes reveals a complicated mixing between the dilaton and other fields (metric and two U(1) Maxwell fields). It turns out that considering both s-wave (l=0) and higher momentum modes (l \neq 0), the dilaton as a fixed scalar is the only propagating mode with $P=Q, h_1=h_2=0$ and $F = -G = 2\phi$. We calculate the absorption cross-section for scattering of low freque...

In Phys.Rev.D89, 104053 (2014) we studied the absorption cross section of a scalar field of mass $m$ impinging on a static black hole of mass $M$ and charge $Q$. We presented numerical results using the partial-wave method, and analytical results in the high- and low-frequency limit. Our low-frequency approximation was only valid if the (dimensionless) field velocity $v$ exceeds $v_c = 2 \pi M m$. In this Addendum we give the complementary result for $v \lesssim v_c$, and we ...
