The magnetic field dependence of the oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic field penetration depth \lambda_{ab} was studied in the hole-doped high-temperature cuprate superconductors YBa_2Cu_4O_8, Y_0.8Pr_0.2Ba_2Cu_3O_7-\delta, and Y_0.7Pr_0.3Ba_2Cu_3O_7-\delta. It was found that \lambda_ab for the ^{16}O substituted samples increases stronger with increasing magnetic field than for the ^{18}O ones. The OIE on \lambda_ab decreases by more than a...

We report measurements of the temperature dependent components of the magnetic penetration depth {\lambda}(T) in single crystal samples of YBa_2Cu_4O_8 using a radio frequency tunnel diode oscillator technique. We observe a downturn in {\lambda}(T) at low temperatures for currents flowing along the b and c axes but not along the a axis. The downturn in {\lambda}_b is suppressed by a small dc field of ~0.25 T. This and the zero field anisotropy of {\lambda}(T) likely result fr...

We present a simple derivation of an expression for the superfluid density $ n_s \propto 1/\lambda^2 $ in superconductors with the tight binding energy dispersion. The derived expression is discussed in detail because of its distinction from the known expressions for ordinary superconductors with parabolic energy dispersion. We apply this expression for the experimental data analysis of the isotope effect in London penetration depth parameter $ \lambda $ in the BiSrCuO and YB...

In the cuprate superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}$, hole doping in the $CuO_2$ layers is controlled by both oxygen content and the degree of oxygen-ordering. At the composition $\rm YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.35}$, the ordering can occur at room temperature, thereby tuning the hole doping so that the superconducting critical temperature gradually rises from zero to 20 K. Here we exploit this to study the c-axis penetration depth as a function of temperature and doping. The temperature depen...

The absolute values of the conductivity in the normal state sigma_n and of the low temperature penetration depths lambda(0) were measured for a number of different samples of the YBaCuO family. We found a striking correlation between sigma_n and 1/lambda^2, regardless of doping, oxygen reduction or defects, thus providing a simple method to predict the superconducting penetration depth and to have an estimate of the sample quality by measuring the normal-state conductivity.

We present measurements the field and temperature dependence of the penetration depth (lambda) in high purity, untwinned single crystals of YBa2Cu3O6.95 in all three crystallographic directions. The temperature dependence of lambda is linear down to low temperatures, showing that our crystals are extremely clean. Both the magnitude and temperature dependence of the field dependent correction to lambda however, are considerably different from that predicted from the theory of ...

We report and analyze in-plane penetration depth measurements in YBa2Cu3O7-x taken close to the critical temperature Tc. In underdoped YBa2Cu3O6:59 we find consistent evidence for charged critical behavior. Noting that the effective dimensionless charge scales as 1/sqrt(Tc), this new critical behavior should be generically observable in suitably underdoped cuprates.

We have investigated the in-plane thermal conductivity $\kappa_{ab}(T,H)$ of large single crystals of optimally oxygen-doped (Y$_{1-x}$,Sm$_{x}$)Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-\delta}$ ($x$=0, 0.1, 0.2 and 1.0) and YBa$_{2}$(Cu$_{1-y}$Zn$_{y}$)$_{3}$O$_{7-\delta}$($y$=0.0071) as functions of temperature and magnetic field (along the c axis). For comparison, the temperature dependence of $\kappa_{ab}$ for as-grown crystals with the corresponding compositions are presented. The nonlin...

We report on measurements of the oxygen isotope ($^{16}$O/$^{18}$O) effect (OIE) on the transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ and the zero-temperature in-plane magnetic penetration depth $\lambda_{\rm ab}(0)$ in the stoichiometric cuprate superconductor YBa$_2$Cu$_4$O$_8$ by means of muon-spin rotation/relaxation. An analysis of the temperature evolution of $\lambda^{-2}_{\rm ab}$ in terms of coexisting $s+d-$wave order parameters reveals that the OIE on the superfluid density $...

We report in-plane Cu(63) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance measurements for a series of fully enriched Ca(0.1)La(0.9)Ba(1.65)La(0.35)Cu(3)O(y) powder samples, which belong to the YBCO family, but the doping could vary from very underdoped to extremely overdoped. From these measurements we determine the average nuclear quadrupole resonance frequency \nu_Q, and its second moment \Delta(\nu_Q), both set by the in-plane hole density, n, as a function of oxygen level, y. We find that in...
